Mountain Martial Arts began as the Colorado Jujitsu Club as a student group at the University of Colorado in February 2006 as a way for students and the Denver metro community to practice Danzan Ryu Jujitsu. Today, we practice our martial art at the intersections of Littleton, Englewood, and Sheridan Colorado and are part of a family of Danzan Ryu dojos around the front range. Danzan Ryu Jujitsu (sometimes spelled Jiu Jitsu) is a comprehensive martial art that includes elements of Karate, Judo, traditional Japanese Jujitsu and many other martial arts. Students learn how to roll and fall safely, escape holds, apply joint locks, throw opponents, grappling techniques, weapons offenses and defenses, proper stances, punches, kicks, and blocks. These were the arts of the Samurai.
In addition to the martial arts, it is our philosophy that students should learn how to heal anything they can damage, therefore, students also learn CPR, First Aid, athletic taping, Asian bone setting and joint relocation, as well as Asian massage, energy work, and healing methods. We teach in a friendly, supportive, noncompetitive environment, where students are taught at their own pace and in the Hawaiian spirit of kokua. For more information on our jujitsu curriculum, see the “what we teach” link. For more information on the class structure, click on the “how we teach” link.
Our jujitsu dojo is a member of the American Judo and Jujitsu Federation, a non-profit organization dedicated to the physical, mental, and spiritual development found in Danzan Ryu Juhitsu. Our dojo (school) is not for profit. All income from class fees goes to support the dojo including purchase and maintenance of mats, gear, practice equipment, etc. None of our instructors are paid, but work on a volunteer basis because they love martial arts and everything martial arts have to offer. This in turn keeps the cost low as it was Danzan Ryu’s founder, Seishiro Okazaki’s, wish for everyone to be able to participate in his art regardless of financial situation.
